2006 : "Up to the North"
|
 Our first trip in the north east region.
We started in the Cape Cod area with a visit to Provincetown,
Martha’s Vineyard, Plymouth, …. And of course a whale watch
excursion in Provincetown.
Since the reasonable distance between New Bedford and Foxwoods,
we’ve decided to have a look at the largest hotel-casino in the
world especially for the Hard Rock Café.
On our way to Canada we made a stop at “Ben and Jerry’s” and “Vermont
Teddy Bear Factory”, both in Vermont nearby the Canadian border.
 In Canada we’ve visited 3 states: Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova
Scotia.
Montreal, Quebec and Rivière-du-Loup were the stops in Quebec.
Montreal and Quebec are beautiful cities with both a rich historical
background. In Rivière-du-Loup we did a whale watch excursion on the
St Lawrence River. We’ve seen a lot of beluga’s, but because they’re
so endangered, it is not allowed to approach them. So we only saw
them from a distance.
In New Brunswick we’ve visited Hartland’s covered bridge; world’s
largest covered bridge, Fundy National Park and the Hopewell Rocks.
At the Hopewell Rocks we were lucky to be there with low tide, so we
could wander along the rocks.
Nova Scotia was, for us, the most idyllic state. We drove all the
way via the coast from Halifax to Peggy’s Cove to Lunenburg to Digby.
That road is magnificent.
In Yarmouth we took “the cat” to Bar Harbor.
Back in US we’ve visited Bar Harbor and Acadia NP. And of course
we’ve been to the Jordan Pond House for the famous “popovers”.
Mmmmmm, delicious.
We did some shopping in Kittery and Freeport and got some witch
history in Salem. In Gloucester we made our third and most exciting
whale watch excursion.
Boston is a great city and has also a rich historical background. Of
course we walked the “Freedom Trail” and visited Harvard. Here we
did our last whale watch excursion, which was also a fantastic
experience. But Gloucester was the max.
Because of the Microsoft Partner Conference we’ve stayed an extra
week in Boston, so we had some extra time and decided to take a day
trip to New York.
